Arts Council - Evening Front Desk Associate

Job Title: Front Desk Associate Department: Theatre Operations & Programming Reports to: Front of House Coordinator / Director of Theatre Operations & Programming Classification: Part time (5:00-9:30pm M-F with opportunity for additional shifts), hourly, non-exempt Pay Rate: $12/hr

Job Summary: Arts Council Front Desk Associates serve as the welcoming face of the Arts Council Campus. Associates greet visitors, track attendance, facilitate sales for the gift shop, box office, and concessions during business hours, and monitor the security of the campus. Front Desk Associates also train as Front of House Associates, with opportunities to work in various roles including Box Office and Concessions during performances.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Greet visitors at the front desk of the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts between 5:00-9:30pm Monday-Friday

  • Provide visitors with assistance and direction to destinations and events on campus

  • Receive and direct phone calls

  • Track attendance in gallery, gift shop, and events

  • Perform gift shop, box office, and concessions sales as needed

  • Assist with reception and check-in for events in Main Gallery

  • Monitor surveillance cameras, ensuring the security of Arts Council campus buildings, outdoor areas, and parking lots

  • Oversee opening or closing of the building (including locking/unlocking doors, turning on/off lights, and setting alarms)

  • Document on-campus incidents

  • Assist with emergency evacuation and response

  • Perform work in a manner that is consistent with Arts Council’s mission, vision, and values, including advancing the organization’s commitment to equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion

  • Other duties as assigned by Front of House Coordinator or Director of Programming

Desired Experience/Job Requirements:

  • Experience providing excellent customer service to visitors from diverse backgrounds

  • Experience and comfort with utilizing telephone, computer, point-of-sale systems, and cash-handling

  • Experience with retail and/or box office desired but not required

  • Experience serving food or drink in a professional setting desired

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently

  • Experience with and passion for cultural arts organizations

  • Availability for consistent weekday evening work hours (5:00-9:30pm M-F, with opportunity for additional shifts)

  • Proven ability to work as part of a diverse team of individuals

  • Essential functions: The ability to sit for four or more hours, answer phone calls, greet and track in-person visitors, visually monitor security cameras, perform point-of-sale transactions, communicate effectively via computer, telephone, and in-person
