Winston-Salem, NC (August 9, 2019) – “Charlie,” the Motown and beach music band, will perform at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 25, at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons The concert is FREE and part of the Summer Parks Series presented by Forsyth County in collaboration with The Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County. The concert and parking are free. Busta Brown, columnist for The Chronicle, will be guest emcee.

This versatile, Durham-based, six-piece band features male and female vocalists, a keys player, guitar, bass and drums. Charlie performs in the Motown tradition of tuxedos and coordinated dance steps mixed with southern beach music guaranteed to please a crowd in the park on a late summer day.

The event is family friendly and children’s activities are provided by Art Nouveau, 40-and-under arts advocates affiliated with The Arts Council, and a/perture theatre on Fourth Street in downtown Winston-Salem.

This is the fourth year of the free Summer Park Series concerts which are held in Forsyth County’s two public parks, Triad Park and Tanglewood Park. The concerts are a collaboration between Forsyth County and The Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County. Series corporate sponsor is Piedmont Paving, and the Sunday, August 25, Charlie concert is sponsored by Publix Super Markets Charities.

Non-profit partner for the Charley concert is the Salvation Army, and attendees are encouraged to bring school supplies for the Salvation Army’s ”Fill the Bus” campaign. The “Fill the Bus” campaign raises donations and school supplies for children who otherwise wouldn’t have their necessary materials for school. Persons bringing school supplies will receive a voucher for a soft drink or bottled water at The Arts Council tent.

“Charlie is the last of this year’s concerts, and it has been a privilege to work with the County on the 2019 Summer Park Concert series,” said Randy Eaddy, Arts Council President and CEO. “We end summer 2019 on a high note. Charlie is the ultimate crowd pleaser and can handle everything from Motown and standard jazz songs to the more popular dance tunes that everyone can groove to.”

David Plyler, Chair, Forsyth County Commissioners, said the series has served two good purposes. “We have provided excellent family friendly entertainment for residents of the County and given them a chance to see what tremendous resources our county parks are year round. We have a lot to be proud of, and we want residents of the county to know about them and use them.”
