Arts Council Presents Cinematic HD Screening of  Classic Musical  “42nd Street” 

Hanesbrands Theatre, 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 13



Winston-Salem, NC  (October 3, 2019) --  “42nd Street,” the long-running hit musical revival on London stage, is the next presentation in The Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County  Cinematic HD Screening series.   The screening is at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, in Hanesbrands Theatre at The Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts in downtown Winston-Salem.  “42nd Street” is the song-and-dance, American-dream fable of Broadway, featuring the West End’s biggest cast on the theatre world’s oldest stage, Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

“42nd Street,”  which features brilliant costumes and show-stopper dance numbers, is the second screening in a nine-event Arts Council series that includes stage productions ranging from musical comedy to Shakespeare and Frankenstein.  All screenings will be at Hanesbrands Theatre using its new, state-of-the-art Digital Cinema Projector.  ”42nd Street” is made available to The Arts Council series by Experience HD.

“42nd Street” follows young Peggy Sawyer, fresh off the bus from small-town America and just another face in the chorus line on Broadway’s newest show.  But when the leading lady gets injured, Peggy might just have the shot at stardom she’s always dreamed of.  It  includes the iconic songs “42nd Street,” “We’re In The Money,” “Lullaby Of Broadway,” “Shuffle Off To Buffalo” “Dames” and “ I Only Have Eyes For You.”

After the “42nd Street” showing on October 13, the 2019-2020 Cinematic HD Screenings series includes Frankenstein (Thursday, October 31 at 7 pm), Hamlet (Sunday, November 10 at 2 pm), All about Eve (Sunday, January 12 at 2 pm), All My Sons (Sunday, February 2 at 2 pm), Present Laughter (Sunday, April 5 at 2 pm), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Sunday, May 10 at 2 pm), and Fleabag (Sunday, May 31 at 2 pm).  All  are from NT Live,  an initiative operated by the Royal National Theatre in London, which broadcasts performances live via satellite of their productions and other theatres to cinemas and arts centers around the world.
