In a dance of art and story, this documentary explores the complex connections between art, food and creative placemaking, showing what it takes to build a community...AND a famous Diner.
The How To Feed An Artist crew is elated to be back in Winston this summer for a month-long filming stint between June and July to follow up with the epic Mary Haglund, filming her in her habitat, the complex and connected artist community still in play. We are filming at community events and capturing upwards of 30 interviews with past and present trailblazing artists, restaurant owners, and community leaders. This doc explores the groundwork that was laid in the late 90’s and early 2000’s by local artists and restaurants, and how their love for art manifested into a beautiful web of connections. Through this discovery, we will look at present day artists, galleries, organizations and eateries in Winston and the challenges of continuing the legacy of creative placemaking, art and community.
Pouring back into the local Winston community is a top priority for the crew. From daily dining, to interviews, to off days exploring the city, our crew is dedicated to economically impacting the small business community during our month-long stay.
We are honored to have the support of the NC Piedmont Triad Film Commission and fiscal sponsorship from the Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County. We are always looking for continued support and ongoing fundraising. If you are interested in monetarily supporting this documentary, you can donate here on the Art Council’s website. This donation is tax deductible.
