Winston-Salem, NC (January 27, 2025) – A steamy date night or a fun way to make new friends – Arts Council announces a Latin Dance Night with SonCaribe on Saturday, February 15.
The Valentine’s Day weekend dance event will feature live music from beloved local salsa band West End Mambo and delectable street fare from Que Viva! Latin Street Grill. Guests can arrive at 7:30 for an Intro to Salsa class or join the Social Dance from 8:30-11:30pm. West End Mambo provides live salsa music from 8:30-10:30pm.
Dance instruction is provided by Luis De La Cruz, founder of SonCaribe Latin Dance. The organization’s mission is to ignite passion for Latin dancing in the heart of Winston-Salem, where individuals can experience the joy and rhythm of salsa, bachata, merengue, and more. SonCaribe shares the rich culture and history of Latin dance through expert instruction, lively dance events, and a supportive community.
The first two hours of the Social Dance will include live accompaniment from West End Mambo, a band comprised of musicians from North, South and Central America as well as the Caribbean. Formed in 1999, the band performs a fiery mix of classic salsa from bolero and rumbas to guaracha and son montuno. Their repertoire includes original orchestral salsa arrangements which they have performed with the Winston-Salem and Greensboro Symphonies.
No partner or dance experience is necessary – guests are welcome to bring their valentine or make friends on the dance floor.
The event takes place in Reynolds Place Theatre on the first floor of the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts (251 N Spruce Street). Tickets are $24 (+tax/fees) and include entry to the Intro to Salsa class and the Social Dance. Drinks including wine and beer and food from Que Viva! Latin Street Food will be for sale – no outside alcohol is permitted.
Tickets are available at intothearts.org/latin-dance or at the door before the event.
