Patty Perrin to Make Triumphant Return with “Patty Perrin & Friends” Concert
Neo-gospel singer set to perform first public concert since 2018 car accident
Winston-Salem, NC (October 23, 2024) – Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County is proud to announce the highly anticipated concert, Back on the Town: A Musical Night with Patty Perrin & Friends, taking place on November 16, 2024 at Reynolds Place Theatre. This special event marks Patty Perrin’s return to the stage after a life-altering car accident in 2018 that left her battling memory loss and seizures, forcing a hiatus from her passion for music.
Patty Perrin, renowned for her soulful voice and profound connection to gospel and neo-soul, has long been a fixture in the music community. Her group, Peace of Mind, a neo-soul jazz ensemble, will reunite for the first time since 2017 to accompany her in this milestone performance. The concert is particularly significant, as it will also serve as a celebration of Patty's 54th birthday.
“I always told my mom, ‘I want to sing to the masses, Mom!’” says Patty, reflecting on her early aspirations. Growing up in a musical family, with her father founding the Hallelujah Singers in the 1960s, Patty’s path in music was almost inevitable. She credits her deep faith and the unwavering support of devoted family and close friends for her recovery.
A proud graduate of East Forsyth High School, Patty’s musical journey took root early. She was a member of the school's renowned Madrigals, where she was mentored by Barbara Geer, who not only inspired her love for music but also taught her how to teach. Patty continued her education at Winston-Salem State University, earning a degree in Music Business and Psychology in 2010, followed by a Master’s in Counseling and Psychology from North Central University. Prior to her accident, she also began pursuing her doctorate, teaching music, and working with students at local institutions like East Forsyth Middle School.
The concert will be a blend of storytelling and music, with Patty performing a range of songs from gospel and soul to rock and jazz. With influences like James Brown, Whitney Houston, and Kirk Franklin, the evening promises to be a powerful journey through her life and career. Patty says, “I want people to walk away knowing that no matter how uncomfortable life may be, you have to keep pushing. Music is in my DNA, and it’s helped me push through every obstacle.”
The musical celebration will run from 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM, featuring an instrumental prelude, a comedian, and Patty’s headlining performance. Tickets start at $30 and include general admission table seating, hors d’oeuvres, and desserts. Attendees are encouraged to embrace the dress code of blue, black, and silver, in honor of the celebration.
Join us in celebrating Patty Perrin’s resilience and passion for music at this unforgettable event.
