Spring into Fun with Events for All Ages at Kaleideum

 

Spring is blooming at Kaleideum, and the museum is packed with activities that spark creativity, curiosity, and community connection throughout the month of April. From stargazing and spring-themed science to opera storytime and late-night fun, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. 


$5 Friday Night, Kids’ Night Out, and Late Night Lasers 

Friday, April 4  

Kick off the month with a high-energy Friday night! Explore the museum for just $5 during extended hours (5-8 pm), drop off your kids (grades K-6) for Kids’ Night Out from 6-9 pm, or wind down your evening with a Late Night Laser Show featuring the music of Led Zeppelin in the Digital Dome at 8:45 pm. 

 

 


Statewide Star Party: Your Place in Space 

Saturday, April 5 | 10 am–2 pm Celebrate the wonders of the universe with Kaleideum’s Statewide Star Party in Liberty Plaza and inside the museum. Guests will enjoy hands-on space-themed activities, telescope viewing, and interactive learning. Admission to Liberty Plaza activities is free as part of the NC Science Festival and NC Space Grant. 

Kaleideum After Dark: Ink & Imagination 

Saturday, April 12 | 6:30–9:30 pm At this 21+ event, guests can sip, socialize, and explore the colorful world of body art in a kid-free environment. Create your own temporary tattoo in the Try It! Studio or check out live artists from Buena Henna and The Painted Panda. Music, karaoke in the Digital Dome, and two drink vouchers for beer, wine, or non-alcoholic drinks are included. Tickets: $20 online, $25 at the door. 

 

Exceptional Night at the Museum: Egg-stravaganza 

Thursday, April 17 | 5:30–8:30 pm Families with children and adults with disabilities are invited to this inclusive, sensory-friendly evening featuring spring-themed crafts, a museum-wide egg hunt, and special activities like coding with Bee Bots. Supported by Compleat Kidz. Members free; non-members $5. 

 


Golden Egg Hunt & Somewhere Over the Science 

Friday, April 18 | 10 am–5 pm School’s out, and the fun is in full swing! Hunt for hidden golden eggs in the museum, then follow the Yellow Brick Road for Somewhere Over the Science, a Wizard of Oz-themed event in partnership with RiverRun International Film Festival. Activities include tornadoes in a bottle, ruby slipper messages, and Oz-inspired crafts, as well as a special appearance by an Oz character! 


Storytime with Piedmont Opera 

Sunday, April 27 | 2 pm Experience the magic of storytelling and music as soprano Katie Muhlenkamp reads Because by Mo Willems and performs in Kaleideum’s Storytelling exhibition. Included with admission or membership. 

 

With daily programs like Animal Encounters, Wonder Lab, and Curiosity Cart — plus Digital Dome shows and hands-on maker activities in the Try It!
