Totally Y2K: A Throwback Dance Party on August 31

Arts Council to host Y2K-themed dance party featuring local DJs


Winston-Salem, NC (July 26, 2024) – Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County in collaboration with Culture and Groove Lab will host a Totally Y2K Dance Party on Saturday, August 31 from 7:30-11:30pm. The experiential dance party features four DJs spinning electronic dance music from the ‘90s and 2000s. Attendees are invited to wear their favorite Y2K fashions while getting down to throwback tunes.


Totally Y2K is headlined by DJ Tay Lively, founder and CEO of Groove Lab NC, which produces monthly dance parties in the Triad. Lively is a DJ and producer based in Greensboro who has played lounges, clubs, and music festivals opening for prominent electronic music acts including J. Worra, Golf Clap, Robbie Rivera and Moon Boots.

The event is co-promoted by Culture, a collective arts space on the 9th floor of the Liberty Plaza Building in downtown Winston-Salem that includes 35 art studios, 14,000 square feet of gallery space, and hosts artist-centric workshops and events. Culture Director Zach McCraw also features on the line-up as DJ ZMC.  


The Totally Y2K Dance Party will take place on Arts Council’s campus at the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts (251 N Spruce Street) on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Doors open at 7:00pm; the event begins at 7:30pm. Snacks and drinks including wine and beer will be available for purchase. Tickets are $10 in advance at intothearts.org/Y2K, or $12 at the door before the event.


Arts Council of Winston-Salem & Forsyth County is the leading advocate of arts in our region and seeks to enhance and support the local artistic and cultural landscape. Established in 1949 as the first arts council in the nation, the pioneering organization is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2024. Arts Council owns and operates a campus which includes the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts. In 2023, it hosted 670 on-campus events with 60,000 attendees and distributed over $1.2 million in grants, benefiting over 800,000 people.
